It is important to get the right support as a dyslexic student or adult, whatever your age. If you think you or your child might be dyslexic we recommend a full diagnostic assessment so that strengths and difficulties can be identified. Then we recommend good tuition, with a qualified tutor.
A number of our members are trained tutors and assessors. Some have a web page on our site. Please follow the links below to a tutor or assessor in your area. If you fall outside our catchment area and cannot get local support please contact us and we will put you in touch with your Local Dyslexia Association.
Whilst we require our tutors to provide us with evidence of all relevant SpLD certificates before having one of our web pages, we strongly recommend and remind all parents or guardians it is their responsibility to check that their chosen tutor or assessor has the required CRB certificate (Criminal Record Bureau) qualifications before leaving minors alone for assessment or tuition.
Schools Screening ProgramsSchools can purchase computer screening software programs from Lucid. These include Baseline, Cops, Lass and Lads series to screen for dyslexia.
The Viss programs from Lucid screen students for visual stress (Mearles-Irlen) that causes reading problems and headaches.Exact is a new product also from Lucid, for assessing for access arrangements.
Please remember that screening programs are not as detailed as full diagnostic assessments and are there to help teachers decide whether a student requires a full diagnostic assessment.
