Tuition

Good tuition can make a huge difference to a dyslexic student, improving not just literacy and numeracy but self-esteem.

A number of our members are trained tutors. Some have a web page on our site. Please follow the links below to a tutor in your area. If you fall outside our catchment area and cannot get local support please contact us and we will put you in touch with your Local Dyslexic Association.

Whilst we require our tutors to provide us with evidence of all relevant SpLD certificates before having one of our web pages, we strongly recommend and remind all parents or guardians it is their responsibility to check that their chosen tutor has the required CRB certificate (Criminal Record Bureau) before leaving minors alone for tuition.

Charity Funding

Bedgebury Foundation

Bedgebury Foundation is a funding charity that awards grants primarily to individuals. Their Additional Needs programme is a programme where grants are offered to those with special needs or those who excel in a particular area. For example, the Foundation has paid for lap tops, specialised software, one to one tuition or group tuition for children with Dyslexia and has funded the training of three teachers to take Dyslexia Association courses. Children who are struggling with literacy may excel in other areas and they have funded tuition and equipment in areas such as music,drama and sport.

Watts Charity

Watts Charity is a local charity set up exclusively for people living in Rochester. If you live in Rochester and you are unable to fund a dyslexia assessment or tuition for yourself or your child you can apply to the charity to fund or part fund the cost.  The grants are means tested.
